Hi, I'm getting back into fishkeeping after about a 14 year break. Last time I kept fish was as an uninformed teenager, and I made tons of mistakes.
My tank is already setup, it's a 29G, was properly cycled over a 6 week period, and is now stocked with community fish (guppys, corys, swordtails). Water conditions are good, and everyone looks healthy and happy.
The problem is, is that my filter is no-name HOB Power Filter from when I kept fish 14 years ago. It is doing it's job nicely, but I'd like to upgrade to a more modern Power Filter with a Bio-Wheel, and one I can find replacement cartridges for. I'm thinking the Marineland Emperor 280.
So, my questions are, is the Emperor 280 a good choice for a 29G, and how should I handle changing to a new filter that will not have the bacteria colonies of my current filter? Can I do something like just put my old cartridge in the Emperor media basket, or will it be more difficult?
Thanks for the help...this is my first post here, but I have learned A LOT from reading the forums here over the last few months.
