Hi,
So, yesterday afternoon I suddenly noticed that my heavily gravid female had started to drop her first batch of fry in my aquarium. She was already in a plastic breeder box, thanks to my lucky timing she was put in there two days before, and started passing them out. Withtin an hour there were 46 complete fry and two incompletely formed eggs. This female was far more resilient compared to what I was use to seeing, in fact, I have never seen such a platy recover quicker. Fifteen minutes after she had given out all of her babies she attempted to eat one and was successful.... so back into the main tank she went and has been going about her daily life like her regular self, which is great.
My question is, will 45 free swimming fry (which they are now) be alright growing up in such a small little container? I don't think so myself and so have already got another one of the same size to split the group into two boxes, meaning 22/23 in each box. What is all of your opinions on this idea?
Dylan
Also, I am about to purchase some baby brine shrimp for them to feed on from now on!
It's good to be here!

Congrats on your fry :good:

Within a few weeks they will be too cramped in 1-2 breeders, you'll be better off setting up a fry tank, with heater & air driven sponge filter,do daily water changes and clean up after feeding, they should thrive :)
