I got home tomight to be greeted by a box!
Don't ya love to get things in the mail? Its like xmas ;)
My Plants arrived!

Open em up and they look good! Aquariumplants.com :)

Slowly, but surely, im replacing the fast growing plants with cooler ones ;)
The Sagittaria Platyphylla is BIG! Ive always admired gf's so i figured i'd lay some of them across the forground of my tank as well...
They musta been 12 inches tall though!!! So i cut em back to around 5, and planted em all.. I hope cutting em like that was ok?
I left a few of em at full hieght and stuck em in the back left side incase cutting em like that was a nono...
also.. how do you cut em for new ones?
Can you top em n replant the tops?
Anyways, here they are.. about 20 of em....

I also ordered some Bolbitus Heudelotii. I had never seen it before, but i thought it looked cool, and i thought it would grow into the rocks pretty good.. kinda like java fern does... so heres some of that!

Of course here comes Mr. Discus to check out what i was doing...
His name has now been changed to JoJo (wife thought he looked more like a JoJo... so ya gotta let her have some fun too.. and the little guy liked it too :))

He looked so curious, i thought... hmm wonder if he'll eat from my fingers?
So i grabed some flake n held it out.. and sure enough, he came right over n ate outta my hand!
JoJo, you da man!

Looks good Walt, tank is coming along nicely!

JoJo is a good name. I also think he looks kinda like a Doofus, so, yeah... :D

You might find they go black at the top, like when cutting vallis really.
I think they produce runners. They'll shoot out runners and new plantlets will grow. You can leave them where they are, or cut the runner and plant where you like.

Looks good though. I love your discus. very cute.

That sag is big! I wonder if it was grown emersed (out of water)? I'm not sure about trimming the tops, I've never done it but it should be ok. Hopefully it'll send out runners that will be smaller. My sag grows to a max of around 6" tall but I assume it depends on lighting, nutrients levels etc.

If the leaves start to go transulscent then it may be a sympton of micro deficiencies.

I would have personally planted each sag with greater spacing to allow maximum light to reach each plant.

Tank and fish look great mate. Nice one.

This gives you an idea of how it can carpet. Bear in mind that I also thin out the sag by around a third every two weeks. Also note the new lighting after replacing the Dennerles (3000K) with Daylights (6500K), my two 7500K are in both.

Cool!
ya, i couldnt believe the size of em either!! Easily 12 inches... you can just bearly see em in the pic of the whole tank... back left side...almost touching the top ;)

also, im gonna spread em around more like you said.....and ill watch for those runners...
looking closer at em, i see new leaves just starting to grow, and i imagine when they get tall enough, ill be able to completely remove the ones i cut...

EI has been working great so far, now about a week into it :)
Maintaining 10-15 nitrates and 1-2 phosphates no problem.... also running about 30-35 ppm of co2.

Im still debating the UG filter, which i cant get outta there without a complete breakdown, with all the rocks on there, some of which are glued....
But so far, the plants have had no problem with it at all, and im wondering if its not actually beneficial in some ways... ;)

All your help has made this tank start to take off nicely :)
Thanks! B)
