I'd like to get my little Sherbert some new plants for his tank.

He currently has some amazon sword but they've gone brown round the edges and will need taking out.

I need some plants which can flourish in low light levels. He just has a clip-on Arcadia light which only goes on for a few hours in the evening.

Any recommendations?

Elodia looks nice in bunches and creates a heavy forested area. Cabomba is a similar plant but with finer and thinner leaves. I have however found that Cabomba falls appart to easily. You could also try grasses, but try to get broader leafed grasses simply because thinner leafed grass falls apart and is a chore to clean. Java Moss Balls do not only make a tank seem 'tidy' but they are very beneficial to the tank.

Anubias and Java Fern are really easy to grow plants and are great for tying on to bogwood/rock etc.

I think he'd like something to rest on as he's quite lazy :hyper: I might try some Elodea - is it definitely OK in low light? Well, it's not really low light but the light is more yellowy than in my main tank, and the light isn't on a huge amount.
I spent a fiver on some Amazon Sword which has basically died so don't want to waste any more money.

Well the light in my biggest tank is a middle brightness in the center of the tank lid, I did have a slight problem with the lower half of the Elodia stems starting to turn brown, but I think that was down to the fact they grew long and spread out over the water surface limiting the amount of light reaching the bottom. I think if you want to make sure the plants live, try to place the light source above them and trim them when they grow to long. With the trimmings you could start up another plant by bunching them up and placing it nearby. I had a similar plant to Amazon Sword kept in a smaller tank with 4 small halogen bulbs and they didn't give off that much light and the plant absolutly flourished in it!

It's just a single bulb, it isn't ideal for growing plants but it's the only thing I could get which fitted my hex tank. I'll give the Elodea a go - thanks.

I have Java moss, Mossballs and Hygrophillia growing under a 15 watt tanklight. They also did well under an Arcadia lamp before I had to strip the tank down.
