New pictures for my Mbuna tank (30g)

Yes they do carry them in their mouth, but I did not observe her spit them out. I was really surprized at the size of the fries (my first ever mbuna spawn), as they were already around 1cm long. How the heck does 2 inch female hold 20 1cm fries in her mouth???

I have rarely seen examples where plants really added to an african cichlid tank. Normally they detract from the effect of the tank. Partly, this is because the tanks are almost completely limited to java fern.

I'd say you have to go one way or the other with this tank. Either take all the plants out, or add a LOT more plants.

If you go with the second option, I'd say the only real good way to do it is to use LOTS AND LOTS of Java Fern. Use different Leaf forms and make a dense forest over the rocks with it. Clump the Java Fern together, not spaced all over the tank. It's best to have enough of it in one place that it could completely cover one of the rocks, and be a significant feature of the tank. Right now, it looks like the plants are put in as an after thought.

VERY nice arrangement of rocks though. :D

Thanks for the suggestions... ;)

I'm still debating with larger plants as I just setup a smaller tank with much higher w/g rating, so those plants really should belong there...

On the other hand, I do have tonnes of java ferns and you are giving me some ideas here....

Lets see how that could turn out...
