i ended up with a paradise fish, atm he is in with an angel, barbs and a pleco. i am assuming it is male because soon after i put him in he started making a bubble nest and trying to get the angels attention ( poor sexualy confused fish) the angel is ok with it most of the time but she has enough she will nip back. i was wondering if it would be best to get it a mate. would it be better to get another male or a female? or is he to in love with my angel? and how can you tell them from male n female?
n info anyone has would be much appreciated!
Thanx in advance ally.

Please read the following message about paradise fish. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1534820
It is recommended to keep at least 3 females with 1 male.

i do have a few tanks on standby just incase. it all depends on the temprement of the fish. atm im sure mine will be fine but i will keep an eye on him. i have kept fighter fish in comunity tanks, many people said it cauldnt be done, i did it seccesfuly.
thankyou for your, opinion. i mite get him a few females then.

Keep him alone.

If you add females, you run the risk of making him particularly aggressive as he starts becoming more territorial. If they spawn, you'll have even more problems.

What size tank do you have BTW - and, out of curiosity, do you know for a fact your angel is a 'she'?

Male paradisefish have longer anal and dorsal fins and are more colorful than females. They are also noticeably more slender.

Paradisefish are nothing like bettas except in that males react towards others of their own species the same way. In terms of keeping them with other fish, bettas are far less aggressive. I have kept countless bettas in communities with no trouble at all. As long as they are not in with other gouramies or similar-looking fish, they are fine. Paradisefish are an entirely different matter - they are quicker and larger than bettas and more likely to attack even very fast fish like danios and barbs.

Your angel, if it continues to respond to the paradisefish' attention, will likely find the paradisefish retaliates aggressively. It is unlikely that he'll be able to kill the angel, but they can certainly both cause damage to each other. That the paradisefish built a bubblenest only suggests he has settled into his new tank and is happy to claim it as his territory - it doesn't mean he is interested in the angel :p.

edit: for several typos

he has been swimming around the angel, as the male betta does with the female thats why i was assuming. its a she cause it has an overy sack wich has poped out a few times, i have asked new world cichlid experts about this n they have said it is perfectly healthy for this to happen. i am thinking i mite set up a single tank for the paradise fish just in case. would a 20L unfilterd tank be ok for now? what is the minamum tank size for a male ( as i have read they get bigger than females) paradise fish? sorry i did read that paradise fish are less agrressive than bettas, i have bread bettas and had many gouramis but never a paradise fish, it was given to me and at the time i thought i was doing the right thing.

Paradisefish are incredibly hardy, adaptable and tolerant so a 5 gallon (20 litres) tank would be fine as a temporary home. However, you should ultimately be aiming for at least a 15 gallon. Good luck with him :)

thanks for that. he seems happy in his new tank blowing his little bubles n playing with the fighter fish next door lol. but will see into getting him a bigger tank soon.
thanx again ally.
