today i just bought my first oto for my new breeding tank (DW im not putting him in yet gotta let it cycle some more) but:

1) Will he/she be ok to go in my main tank for a few weeks until its cycled fully?
2) the new tank currently does not have any algae in there at the moment and hes in my breeding trap (only some cherry shrimp in there for now) so what can i feed him in the meantime, i have some of the green plankton frozen stuff which if i understood right was meant to be something to do with algae, is this right if not what can i feed him in the mean time?
3) is it best to have a few of them if not would he survive a few weeks until i get enough money to buy more and how many should there be in a group
4) is there anything major i shud know about these fish?

any help will be very appreciated thank you

Hi there! Congrats on the new oto, they're a really nice fish~ =)
I have one and he's in my ten gallon tank. I bought him when I started to cycle it, but I have 3 other fish besides him. I eventually got two others.
I usually just let my oto eat what's in the gravel- he/she seems quite content to just munch on some leftover flakes. I also have "Aquarian" brand sinking algae chips. I also have a peppered cory so it works well for both of them. They're thin and wafer like, small too. I usually put one in every couple of days. I also break them in half and put one half on each side of the tank.
I don't know anything major about them except that they are pretty hungry fish, haha. If you google otocinculus there are some good websites that come up with information about them.
Good luck!

ive got two of these in my community tank and i only ever seen them when i put them in the tank lol.

If you have a large tank with plants Good luck finding him again

its been a month now since the post and love him more and more hes enjoying the main tank so i have left him in there and he just sits on the side of the glass and well does what he does but he looked lonely so i got another.

ive just set my paypal up so have to hope no one is selling any as i will end up buying some

a little question though can these breed in a community tank? if so what specifically can i do to help this along

I had three in a 55 gallon tank that stuck to one part of the tank on the glass whenever the light was on. I noticed after i want from three to seven oto's they became MUCH more active. I have heard this before, so i would assume if you cant find an oto to increase the communinty size.
