Just got a new ornament. It has green algae on it in 'strand' form, but the guy said that was GOOD. Was he right? Or am I going to get a big problem here?

If it's new why does it have algae on it? If it's second hand then you should scrub it in hot water with a stiff brush before putting it in your tank.

It sound like hair algae, and no, it isn't good ( unless you have otos who may eat it ) . The guy was probably just too lazy to clean it.

Just fill the sink with plain hot water and scrub the ornament . Every nook and cranny Then pour boiling water over it, then scrub i again. Let it dry and cool, then put it in your tank.

It was from my LFS, and the guy is pretty knowledgable, but I'll take your advice.
