Hi
I have just entered the world of nano tanks and purchased a 60L Aquaone cube 40.
I have set it up as a tropical tank with 11w combined lamp and hang on the back external 200L per hour filter.
I have 1â€￾ to 2â€￾ graduated plant substrate covered in fine gravel and plenty of plants.
I want to keep as a specimen tank for some of the miniature varieties but have not yet decided what.
I have used 40% new and 60% water from my established 300L tank which had a 30% water change last week.
I have also placed some of the ceramic rings from my external filter in the filter for the cube and rinsed the filter pads in the water inside the established filter.
Now my question is how long will it take for the tank to cycle?
I hope that my actions have made the process a lot quicker.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
James

It will probably take around 2-4 weeks to cycle, but if you use bactinettes it should be done even quicker.

Hi
I have a couple of Guppies and a Mollie

Oh, fair enough. Since you've added mature filter media, it should already be cycled. Just check ammonia for a couple of days to make sure.

Great thanks.
I am going to leave it for a couple of weeks then start to add some different fish, any suggestions?
I would like something different and small and interesting.

If you could get ahold of some celestichthys margaritatus they would look fabulous, especially if you breed them.

Hi Again
Just done a water test and the results are
PH 6.5 - 7
Ammonia 0.6 – 1.2 mg/l (ppm)
Nitrite 0.3 mg/l
Nitrate 20 mg/l

Can anyone please tell me how this seems.
James

Now tested my tap water and the Nitrate is at least 10 mg/l

You are still cycling, once ammonia and nitrite reach zero, you'll be ready for the new fish. If you already have fish in there for the cycling, you need to do daily small water changes to bring down the ammonia and nitrite levels so it doesn't kill the fish.
