Roberts, T.R. 2007. The "celestial pearl danio", a new genus and species of colorful minute cyprinid fish from myanmar (pisces:cypriniformes). The Raffles Bulletin of Zoology 55(1): 131-140.

Celestichthys margaritatus Roberts, 2007
so not a microrasbora or even a danio
has been put in it's own genus :good:

Wow fantastic....I knew they were busy with naming them but didn't hear the news yet until now...I have hunted Google high and low and cannot find anything...where did you find the news?

Those massive canine ears have their uses eh wolfie.

How about "beautiful-tiny-fish-soon-to-be-extinct-in-the-wild-due-to-human-greed"?

I know, i know, the PFK article has done the rounds on this board a few times but it's still SUCH a shame that a fish that has taken thousands of years to evolve in it's micro-habitat will almost certainly be wiped out from it's only known natural habitat within a year (two years max) of it's discovery to mankind......

Strange... I thought it would be put with the danios.

I agree, but maybe after they're wiped out in their very limited habitat, they can hopefully be re-established with stock from aquarists. I would think that with the (unfortunate) popularity of this beautiful little fish, supplies of captive bred fish will increase to the point that the need (and greed) to seek it out in it's natural habitat will disappear. We can hope anyway!
