A while back the lfs gave me some baby mollies for free. they were just a few hours old when I got them, there were four, but only two survived, one male and one female. I heard that they are better in groups with more females than males, so I went to buy a female molly today.

Well, I ended up with a balloon molly. She is so cute! The fish store employee says that they stay smaller than regular mollies.

My questions-

Is he correct? How big will she get? She is only a little over an inch now. I am asking because if they stay small maybe I will get a few more.

Will she breed with my gold dust molly male when he grows up? If so, will the babies be balloon or regular?

How on earth can I tell if she gets pregnant?

Thanks. I would love to hear from anyone out there who has these fish.

I have 1 adult balloon molly and 4 fry they are cute! Most don't get that big mine is about 1.5 inches I believe. Yes your balloon molly will breed with your gold dust molly. I'm not sure what the babies will look like. Although she will probably have several batches of babies from the fish that were at the pet store since they store sperm for up to 6 months.

That pic looks exactly like my Barbara!

I've had two for about three weeks now and they haven't grown much, both just under an inch. Their label at the pet shop said they could get to 6cm though I've never seen one that big - I'd like to know how big they do get as well!
