I saw these and just couldn't resist. I've never had mollies before (I currently own guppies), but am looking forward to this new adventure!

This is my male. I'd never seen a white molly before (though I'm sure they are plentiful). This isn't the best picture of him, but he's the same color as the white female below.

I haven't named them yet. I got them from Wal-Mart so they have only been in aquarium salt. I've read that they need marine salt though. Do I need to introduce them into the marine salt slowly? Or will they be fine in aquarium salt? I currently have them in with my guppies as I use aquarium salt with my guppies, but I want to move them into their own tank, so I need to know if I need to use marine salt. If I need marine salt, do I need to introduce them to it slowly as they haven't been in it before?

Thanks! I really want to do this right!

I currently keep my black, white and ballon mollies in freshwater but i have hard water so i think that makes it not as bad, plus their healthy and vibrant.
I found this site which reccomends 1 teaspoon of AQUARIUM salt per 5 gallons(adjusted over time if this is higher then your current dose): http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Mollies.htm
You could try and ask how much they add at the walmart store(not saying they're the greatest example) so your water is complimentary to what the fish is used to there.
Good luck! :)

I currently have 1 Tablespoon per 5 gallons of water, and the mollies seem to be fine for now, but when I move them into their own tank, should I leave the ratio like that or add marine salt? :/

Oh, okay, thanks! I'll keep the mollies in the 10 gallon and move some of the guppies into the 5 gallon when it gets here. Thanks for the tip! :D What about the water? Is Aquarium salt fine or should they really be kept in marine salt? :/

what worked for me, when i had them..... Doc Wellfish's Aquarium Salt. it works fine trust me, thats how i keep the fry alive too!

Aquarium salt is not adaquete for Mollies, it does nothing really. What you need is marine salt to make the water slightly brackish. Sure, your Mollies may have survived when you had them in aquarium salt, but that doesn't mean they were doing their best or thriving. :)

Hope your Mollies get better. :)

Thank you so much Annastasia! :D

I've got a new tank arriving tomorrow and after I cycle it, I'll put the mollies in with some marine salt. I'll go buy some at my lfs tomorrow. Out of curiosity, incase I want to keep guppies or platies with them, will those species be alright in the brackish water or should I not keep them together?

Also, my black molly is a big bully to my balloon molly. Is that normal? I had another black molly and traded it because it was agressive. Now the one I traded is agressive . . . are black mollies notorius for being agressive?
