Hi all this is my first post on this forum, I joined mainly because iv just bought a Fluval Vicenza 180 from the pet shop that i work at, getting a massive discount on it too at just £100! :D stand included. I've set it all up (had it running for a week) and thought I would first put in some convict cichlids as I've allways wanted to keep them but my previous tanks were too small and also because theyre a hardy fish and I thought I would keep them for a while for the tank to mature properly. My collegue has a pair of convicts and has given me 7 little baby convicts about a month or two old! they look lost in th the tank!
For when iv decided iv kept convicts for long enough I'm not sure as to what to put in next! anyone have any ideas on what to put in? I know i want to keep angel fish at some point and i also want to have a go at keeping a planted tank, but just cant bring myself to pay 100-odd pounds for c02 unit!
Thanks

Hi Mattyouk, welcome to the forums :good: Sorry, I missed you way down there on the list.

Convicts can be very aggressive, hence their name and they breed extremely easily. Also the babies are difficult to sell as they are fairly common fish. Having said that I think convicts are pretty underated, they are actually very attractive colourwise.

Best to keep a species tank with some robust bottom dwellers like medium sized catfish. Planet catfish is a good site to research

Good luck

I always thought they were called convicts cos their stripe pattern looks like the old stripey jumpsuits that convicts wore in the '60s -_-
