Hi all,
My name is Frank Yuwono from Jakarta, Indonesia.
I have a Tropical Fish Export Company here.

I'm just trying to learn more about the hobby around the world.

Pica: sorry, new items are getting scarce with all the habitat destruction going on.
Anyway, the trade does not seem to like obscure and ugly fish :D that's what most of the new ones are. Most of the fish we export nowadays are bred in captivity.
We used to introduce lots of new species back in the 80s when interest was high.

Hi Clunkster...unfortunately we deal with importers only and they seem to
be out of touch with the hobbyists. All they want are just cheaper prices of the fish that sells in quantity or what the competitors are selling.

That's why I'm here :D trying to grasp what is going on in the hobyyist' world.
I'd love to meet importers that are actually hobbyists themselves.

Welcome Frank! Thats too bad that the importers dont like the 'obscure and ugly fish' I'd rather call them oddballs hehe they're so cool.

Wookie: Thanks again. Can't really blame the importers. They sell mostly to big buyers such as WalMart and I can't really see the big guns buying the new oddballs.
The business sure had changed a lot the last decade...

bah! i'd love to even see pics of the guppy-mills; its a rare opportunity for me to see where my captive-breds might have come from.

Let me see what I can dig up....I think I have some guppy farm pics from Singapore a few years back. We quit breeding guppies about 6 years ago.
