:) Hi, I'm a new member to this forum and to the betta world as well. I just recently got into bettas after an unfortunate event with my first (diseased) betta from Walmart. (Went back into Walmart two weeks later and they had a sign up saying "All fish are not for sale due to a disease." :X Doh. And they won't give a refund because I had already buried him.)
After being tramatized that it died, I got myself to learn mostly everything I can about raising and keeping bettas. Of course, I'm very much a newbie still but... I'm learning!

After spending a few weeks getting my tank ready again (of course, all cleaned up), I went to a Petco to check out some bettas. Luckily, I went into the store just as they got a new shipment of crown bettas!
I spotted some gorgeous ones.

A yellow/gold CT :)

A white CT! Wow.

In the end, I went with the yellow CT, but it broke my heart to have to leave the white CT behind. To be honest, I wanted to get the white CT as well, but I didn't want to bite off more than I can chew.
I think the yellow CT is young yet, yes? He seems small and not as developed. Hopefully he'll grow up big and strong. :)

Please drop me any and all advice!

Welcome to the forums! Also nice choice on the betta. :D I'm going to Petco this weekend myself so hopefully they will have a nice one for me to get.

Welcome to the world of bettas! ^_^ Your new guy is really pretty! He looks like he's got great color, and I look forward to seeing more pics of him! :D

Also, the white CT looks like a DT!! Dude... if I were you I'd go and pick him up too... that's an awesome find!!

Oh, I really really want to! But I only have 1 tank and limited funds! I'm a poor student. sad1.gif sad1.gif sad1.gif Maybe I'll just dig my card and somehow make up the money by selling more books.
Edit: In the end, I ditched all reservation and just got him. He's just too precious of a find to lose. :)

Anyways, here's some pictures of the yellow CT in his tank. I need to think of a name for him, so suggestions are welcome!

He keeps popping into behind the filter; anyone know why? I was alarmed when he first did that, cause I thought he was stuck.

 Oh you'll fit in just fine here...

I wanted to cry because I could only choose one and and I wanted both so bad.
Awwww.. :flowers:

Congrats on your Yellow CT
Welcome to the world of Bettas. :)

I got the white CT and a new 5 gallon tank (whee, there went a lot of money) and I've got it going. Hopefully, it'll be ready within 3-5 days, if not sooner.

Here's some pictures of the white CT (flaring!). :)

Is he really a doubletail too? Also, he seems to be a off-white/yellow/ivory-ish color. Not sure what to call that color!

YAY!! :hyper: A five gallon tank too... what a lucky guy! :D

Yup, he's definitely a DT too... he's got the two caudal lobes and an extended dorsal. ^_^

Congratulations on your new bettas and welcome to the forum!!!! I love your DTCT...he's gorgeous!

I'm actually trying really hard to think of good names. I've gone through sites, and jotted down some but I'd have to think hard before I can actually settle on one. :)

I was concerned a bit about the ammonia levels in my yellow CT's tank, which are higher than I'd like them to be (0.25-0.5) so I was looking ammonia poisoning up online when I ran across this information...
As elevated ammonia continues, their tissues will be damaged. If you see red streaks or bloody places on their body and fins, there is internal damage to internal organs and brain. If it goes on long enough, the fish will start to bleed internally and may develop dropsy as the organs start to shut down.
I was concerned about that, because I noticed in my white CT (and the yellow too, actually) that it had some red streaks, like as if it had broken blood vessels or something. I think you might see it in some of the pictures above. He had it when he came into the pet store. :\ Do you think he had been ammonia poisoned before he arrived? He's very active and flaring at the yellow CT whenever he sees even his shadow, so I wouldn't think he was but... Just worried!

OH! And also, judging from those second set of pictures of my yellow CT, does he look a bit pale to you? Compared to when he was fresh from (and in) Petsmart?

Update on their names. :)

The yellow CT will be Attis and the white DTCT Deimos.
I have a feeling I might start calling them Atty and Dei soon though.
