Well i bought 2 female and 1 male mollies from my local pet store tonight...the two females are doing fine...however the male refuses to swim whatsoever..he just sits there on the bottom...so i decided to put him into a breeding net thats also in the tank, without any fry in it.

i beleive my tank stats are fine because all other fish are healthy and happy (4 black skirt tetras, 4 albino pistellia tetras, and one other molly)

so what should i do?? keep him in the net or back in with the rest of them where he just sits on the bottom?

let him adjust and get used to the tank...id wait a few days before wondering.
If hes breathing and acts alright, then he should be fine. My first mollies tended to do the same, and im already taking care of 3rd generation ones, so it sohuld be ok.

Need to no water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, how many gallon is the tank, plus fish and which type, any red inflamed gill or laboured breathing or flicking and rubbing against objects, it's not normal for a livebearer to sit on the bottom of the tank, is his stomach bloated and what does it look like when he goes to the toilet.

Hi, it isn't a good idea to assume the water is OK because your existing fish seem OK. I did that and I added six small new fish. They died within minutes. When I got a test kit and tested the water I was horrified at the results. My existing fish are Mollies, a Common Pleco, one Guppy and an Apple Snail. The Mollies , Guppy and Pleco are tough as old boots so they showed no signs that anything was wrong. I added the Apple Snail at the same time as the six new fish and it is doing well. I am going to test on a regular basis from now on, definitely. :)

OK i did my water tests...

Amonia was ~ 0.6 mg/L which is under the dangerer level, but some was present.
NO2 ~ 0.3 mg/L which again some is present, but not a supper high levels...
NO3 ~ levels were between 10 and 20 mg/L ...and i know these should be present after a few weeks of starting up which is where i am

So, as a newbie, only had fish for a couple weeks, what should be my course of action?
do a 20% water change?
leave it be for a day and check again?

salt anyone? black skirt tetras have scales, albino pristella tetras are hard to tell because they're damn see thru, but probably not

That explains it poor water quality, i would recommend a water change and keep an eye on water stats, good luck.

well he was doing better for a couple days, but now hes back on the bottom again...

so i checked my stats my NH3 and NO2 readings were very low to nothing...so i dont know what it is...

im not sure what i should do....i could add some salt which can help mollies, but they're in with tetras, which dont handle salt very well appearntly...any ideas anyone??
