New Malawi Tank

I'm so excited, i'm just like a little kid! My newly aquascaped Malawi Tank! Ta-Da!!! Water is still a bit cloudy, sorry!

Thanks! It's got 4 electric yellows (labbies), 2 aulonocara nyassae (Blue Peacock?), one synodontis multipunctatus and 3 blue dolphins (cyrtocara moorii). YES!! I know they get BIG - they will get rehomed well before the tank gets too crowded! Yeah, that rock was a major bummer - about £35 - dunno what that is in North Pole lira, but it's a fair amount of money! It's probably scratched the heck out of the back of the tank too, although I put plastic matting down on the bottom so hopefully it shouldn't scratch the bottom or slide around too much.

All I gotta do now is try and persuade the fishies to come out of the lovely expensive caves I've provided for them and pose for the camera!

good looking tank, i hate how rocks are soo over priced, same with wood.

you got a synodontis multipunctatus thats cool i cant bring myself to buy one as in oz they are always more then 50$ and id now have to get a big one so it wouldnt get eaten.

Hi,

i wouldn't say you were overstocked at all.

Mbuna specifically require overcrowding to reduce the aggression within the tank.

I think 10 fish in a 40 gallon is good. You could even be able to fit a couple more in IMHO.

I am just setting up a 55 gallon Mbuna and will be keeping 15 - 20 Mbuna...3 - 4 each of Labidochromis Caeruleus, Pseudotropheus Saulosi, Cynotilapia Afra, Metriaclima Estherae and maybe a couple of bristlenose catfish to keep the tank a little cleaner.

So long as you have excellent filtration and vigilant maintenance you will be fine.

(by the way, with ref to another of your posts... did you go with the plastic covering at the bottom to distribute the rock weight?)

Thanks for the compliments!! Steve, yes I did go with the plastic matting stuff, I put it down, put the rocks in then poured the gravel over. Seems to be working okay! It did keep trying to float, and as I was doing everything the wrong way round and had the fish already in the tank, they kept trying to hide under it....awkward little beggars!

Yeah, I fancy sticking another couple of fish in as well - maybe some afras or electric blues. It seems sad to go by colour scheme but...... I've got the yellow labbies, and the dolphins which are a pale blue, and the nyassae which are electric blue and yellow stripes, would be nice to have some solid electric blue colours in there too.

I love the labbies, they are cheeky little things, and shoal nicely with the dolphins. The nyassae, which are the biggest and the most colourful, spend all their time in caves being grumpy..... of course!

I think yur tank is awesome

I have a similar bunch of fish in my 75gal tank.....6 yellow labs, 5 blur dolphins, 4 Aulonocara rubescens, 2 clown loaches, a RTBS and a few bnoses (some fry some adult)....they all get on well and only fight among their breeds.....
