I bought three new livebearers today. A mickey mouse female platy  , silver baloon molly and a white with black and orange speckled molly, both female. They were in a mix tank at my lps which had more males than females in it does anyone think there is the possibility they could be pregnant. They have settled in nicely. As soon as i put them in the speckled molly decided she would follow the cories around the tank maybe they were showing her around  . Im a bit worried about the silver molly though she seems to be hanging around near the top of the water, she has been eating and pooing as normal, do you think she is just settling in.

Congrats on the new fishies! :D

If there were males in the tank...the females are pregnant. :p I'd count on babies within the next month or so.

And your Molly may still be settling in. I'd watch her, and if this continues, look for any other signs of disease. Also, what are your water params? I'd say she is still settling in and getting her bearings, though. :)

OK i would love some fry of my mickey mouse platy so fingers crossed she is pregnant. Just have to wait and see now. Silver molly is fine and acting normally i guess she was just settling in.

If this continues I would give it a salt dip. Mollies are a brackish fish and require salt. Where you have cories you cannot add salt. Which could be a problem you might have to seperate them in the near future.

That's actually debatable Angel Lady...whether they need salt or not. It really depends on how they were brought up. :) There's lots of topics on it though, and I don't think anyone really knows if they need to to be brackish or freshwater, because people have kept them sucessfully both ways.

Basically, the best thing for them is to add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons for them. As mentioned though, if you have Cories you can't do this for long periods of time.
