I finally got my new fish in the mail! I ordered them off an auction site and they came in the mail today, Split Fin Goodeids (Chapalichthys pardalis). I love goodeids because they are vivaparous unlike the common livebearers the guppies and swordtails and such. Vivaparous means that the fry basically have an umbilical cord that attachs them to something like a placenta in the mother. They usually have a lot fewer fry, something around a dozen is what I have read. Thats all the info I have read so far.

They are supposed to be easy to breed so here I go! One more livebearer species I am trying to breed! I really should think about joining the American Livebearer Association.

How many did ya get? :) They sound great though...I've always wanted to breed Goodeids. You'll have to keep me updated on everything! :D

Don't you have to pay to be in the A.L.A I really don't know why you have to pay. Maybe for donations... I don't have any Major credit cards.

Yes, you do have to pay to be in the ALA but then again you have to pay to be in just about any club. Once you join you get access to a lot more livebearers than you can usually get even online. Also from what I have heard once you get into the ALA sometimes you can become part of breeding projects for endangered species.

Actually, I have heard that Chapalichthys pardalis is critically endangered in the wild so I guess I already am going to help with trying to save the species.

Oh and Annastasia I got a pair, one male and one female. The male seems to have a little more color than the female and has more metallic gold scales on his sides. In general this species doesn't have the bright colors that your general livebearers do but its a real beauty in its own unique way.

I don't have a digital camera (til christmas hopefully *crossing fingers*) but I can try to find a pic online and post it.

EDIT: here is a pic I found online :

hopefully this will show up

Meh, I'm so jealous. I had a chance to get these guys from a seller but I didn't and now I am smacking myself. :(

Hopefully you'll get some fry soon! And hopefully you'll get a camera for Christmas so we can all see your new beauties. :D *Hint hint, people buying Guppymonkey Christmas pressies...*

Hopefully I can borrow a camera when the fry are born so I can take a pic of them with their umbilical cords! Thats gotta be something odd to see!

Once the fry are born and old enough (hopefully she is already pregnant) I am going to see if I can ship them to some people through the mail! Which would be a first for me! :p
