I have a 3ft 119l jewul tropical tank.
I was on holiday for the past week came back yesterday Sat 19th July 2008 and looked in my tank this morning Sun 20th July 2008 and saw some Krib Fry tried to count them and I can only coount 10. would the rest of been eaten or would it be due to there first brood?
I didnt no wether to remopve them as I have about 15 Guppies, 2 Red-Wag Platies, 5 Sunset Platies, 1 Opaline Gourami, 2 Golden Gourami, 2 Peppered Corydoras, 1 Red Fined Black Shark, 5 Neon Tetras, 1 Angel Fish, 2 Black Widow Tetras, 1 Male betta, a weird fast sucker fish and the two Krib parents.
I do have another 2ft tank I could put them in but i was worried they might scatter and get eaten. And then I thought what if the parents reject them if I do catch them all and put the family in the smaller tank.
Is it recommended or are they better off in the tank they are. There is 2 caves, 1 plant pot and one holey peice of bogwood int he tank they are in. Also I have guppy and platy fry in a livebearing container in the tank shall I remove the babies and put them in there.
Thanks
MarniiBabii..x

Okay, first off, your tank is wayyyyy over stocked. I would remove theese fish, for the helath of the fish:
Red tailed black shark, Gourami's ( all of them), all platies, both cory's ( they need to be in bigger groups anyways), all tetras, the angel ( needs a large tank and more freinds), the betta ( they have a tendency to go balistic on tank mates), the pleco ( weird fast sucker fish), and 9 guppies. That should leave you with :
2 kribs and fry, and about 6 guppies ( 2 males, 4 females). It dosent sound like alot, but your tank can not hold that many fish. I would move the fry into the extra tank by themselves and feed them BBS.

What shall I do with the fish I take out?
All my fish were expensive
The gouramis were 4.30 each (breeding pair)
The oplaine Gourami was £3.00
The Angel fish was £15
Sunsets Platies 6 for £10
Red-Wag Platies were £1.80 each
Neons 6 for £5
Widows £1 each
Black Shark £3
Weird Fast Sucker Fish was a birthday present from my boyfriend so I dunno the price
Guppies I only bought 4 which were 1.20 each they bred to make the others.
Forgot to mention the two balloon mollies which were £2 for both
The Kribs were £5 each and the Betta was £3.95
I also have about 30 gupy fry about 2 weeks old, 2 platy fry dunno how old only found them today in the weed.

Ok, to answer your first question, krib fry are normally ok with the parents as like most cichlids they are great natural parents and will protect the fry best they can. Your problem is with all the other fish in the tank chances are most are going to be eaten unless they can hide till they're big enough. You are overstocked but i wouldn't be as drastic in rehousing your fish as the above poster. There are some bad choices such as the angel fish with neons, and to a certain extent the guppies as the small fish may become angel food when it gets bigger. The male betta is probably a betta splendens which if it doesn't pick a fight with the brightly coloured guppies, it's fins are going to be nipped by the black widow tetras. He should really be in a tank on his own. A nice filtered and heated 10 gal should do nicely. You need to identify that suckermouth catfish as there are several fish that fit that general description that will quickly outgrow your tank. I would seriously consider getting a second tank anyway if you want to keep all the fish as all your baby fish are going to overcrowd the tank in no time. I know you probably don't want to hear it and your tank is probably running fine. But because you're so heavily stocked if something does go wrong, it will go wrong very quickly.

Good luck!

Edit - Just read your first post properly and noticed you have a 2ft tank, set it up and pop some of the smaller fish in there and you should just about be ok. You still need a separate tank for your betta.

I have floating plant whcich covers half of the top of the tank the kribs live under it.
The betta doesnt come out of the weed I even panic and take all the weed out just to see if hes okay.
My boyfriends giving me his old 3ft tank bit smaller than mine as mines just over 3ft. I was going to set that up and put it in the porch.
I was going to catch the krib fry and set up the 2ft tank and put all the fry in together.
I can take a picture of the tank for you but I will need to find out how to use bluetooth on the laptop as i dont have a usb for the phone.
The sucker Fish is a Sucking Loach (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri)

You sound like you have a plan which is good, and you can house all the fish too. I would put the Sucking Loach or Chinese Algae Eater in whatever tank you don't put your angel in as they sometimes like to eat the slime off the side of deep bodied fish, and they can grow quite big, some can reach around 30cm so you may have to find another home for that fish anyway. Here's a useful site for general information about your CAE plus they have loads of info on other fish species so you can plan what fish you get for your tank.

Unfortunately it sounds like you're the victim of an LFS giving you bad advice just to sell you some fish, but you're in the right place now. There's more than a few people here with loads of experience about fish keeping that they're normally more than willing to share.

I am thinking of making my juwel tank in a planted aqurium but didnt no what my fish would do to it.
Would they uproot all the plants?
Plus all the krib Fry are eating my grassy plants, is that normal or arent they getting enough food?

I dont see anything wrong with planting it.. Yes, baby kribs are grazing on the grass, there is nothing wrong with this. You should feed them BBS.

Took them out and put them in with the guppy fry the guppy fry killed 2, 2 fry escaped thruogh the gaps and the 6 left I put back in with the parents because they were rushing around franticcaly looking fr them dno what happened to 4 of them they only have 2 with them.

I looked again this morning and the Kribs have 5 fry back :D, still upset by losing 5

How often do Kribs breed?
I am wanting to have more Krib Fry but after I have sorted out the other two tanks and have got less fish in the tank

Once the fry are gone, it can be a matter of days to weeks. usually they lay eggs 3 weeks apart, sometimes 2

They still have 5 fry. Theyre territory is third of the tank and where they are is 1 cave, grass plants, a shell, bogwood and the floating plant is right above them.
Should the fry live? the male keeps guard all night and day but sometimes all the fish go up the krib end when I feed them as the filter flows towards them and all the food goes by the Kribs so I get protective over the Kribs and put a wooden rod in and try and work like a border collie rounding up sheep.
Should I really intervene?

Sadly all the krib fry have been eaten :(
I will post as soon as they have more :)
