First of all i'll say hello to everyone . After recently setting up this new tank the water was very cloudy so i emptied the tank and started again . Despite my best efforts the water is still cloudy . Iread somewhere else this is quite normal and will settle . My questions to those of you in the know is how long should this take and is there anything else i could do to speed it along .

Thanks in Advance

Hey and welcome to the forum...We need to know what you added in the tank, like type of subtrate, decorations etc...But if you just added thouraghly cleaned gravel into your aquarium , and put dechlorinated water into your tank and it turns out cloudy, i would be certain that it will go away...just give it time to settle...It happened to me when i first set up my aquarium and added water through the hose and dechlorinated it...It took a while for the water to be clear so ye...If you plan on adding anything such as driftwood, if it is untreated, it could leach tannins which will make you tank brown...But if you want to make your water clearer, just add a carbon insert to your filter...Hope this helps.

Try Interpet's Filter Aid, for example. This will help. Are u using a 'soil' substrate, overload with eg quartz gravel? It can take a lot longer if this is the case.

Thanks for that i will need to get a bottle of that or one of the other filter/bacteria start up solutions . My filter has a carbon insert anyway which will need replacing soon . Apart from the gravel there is nothing else in the tank .
