What is that gravel/sand callled in the pics ? and does it compact ?

It's brown (looks more orangey to me) silica sand, and it doesn't compact. I bought it from Ultimate Aquatics in Cupar, Scotland. I'm really pleased with the colour against the plants and its still small enough for the cories to filter through their gills. In super macro it looks like little pebbles.

So am I right in saying that you get different colours ? Cause I have heard of silver silica sand, and its also it think known as silver quartz gravel(as its large grains) and also known as pool filter sand !

Yeh you get different colours because I emailed and asked what type they stocked and I think they said they had white silica sand but I can't remember now. You should get emailing your fish shops.
