Aslong as those fu**ing tree huggers don't get in the way!!
does anyone else see this as ironic considering its an aquarium devoted to ecosystems that they'd be protesting? or is it just me?

If the delta is to be recreated as close as possible to the real thing, then I just wonder how much of the aquatic life you're going to be able to see. I guess the tourist part will be a series of tanks away from the main ecosystem with maybe a couple of low level windows allowing viewing of the main river system.
As an Amazon lover I would love to see this place. As an engineer I'd love to see how it works! The logistics will be huge. If they are going 'back to nature' then the biological filtration should take place mainly within the river system. The water will probably be recycled (unlike nature) so some external help will probably be required. The mechanical filtration will be huge though. All those plants dropping leaf litter etc into the water. I wonder if Eheim are going to bring out a Professional III 2038,000,000 to sort it out? And the heater they use will look like a submarine!

OK, time to stop going off on one....

you foreigners can stop whining.

the reason you dont have such things in your country is you dont need them.

it's wet, damp and miserable here and our most exciting naturally occuring fish is a carp. hence we need to make "fake paradise". all you need to do is go outside, tell you what i'll do you a swop. 40 hectares of paradise for the everglades.

not to mention what you can see with a scuba kit. all we see is rusty shopping trollies and the odd sewage pipe.

What about the pike? Samon? Trout? Perch? Even the humble stickleback is a lovely little fish!

Go scuba diving off west Wales or the SW coast of England and you'll see some rather spectacular sights.
Granted, you have to look sometimes but GB has some fantastic wildlife. Don't sell it short. OK, we don't have anything particularly large like the Everglades or the Amazon but we have our own special areas. The National Parks cover large areas of Britain and contain some of the finest areas of outstanding beauty and nature reserves in Europe. Sometimes we forget about what's right in front of our noses!

P.S.
We also have the advantage that very little of our wildlife can kill us. You might get the Everglade/Aquarium swap but you'll also get the dangerous wildlife that comes with it! Croc/alligator anyone?

Edit:
Just read it back to myself. It sounds like a rant. It's not, honest. Just pointing out what we have.

i know i know, i'd never wish to live anywhere else.

wrists slapped.

(i've been to the everglades and met a local lady who was out walking her dog the week before. she threw his ball and yep you guessed it... it rolled into the swamp. you can guess what happened next. :rip: )

I hope it goes ahead. Not too long a drive for me to get there. By the way the Eden Project is well worth a visit.
