New House, New Location To Set Up

Touch wood - all is going well with buying our first ever home! :good:

Is it a terraced house with one of those nice long lounges downstairs. The lounge will be used as a lounge-diner so that we can have a dinner table and be a little more civilised than we are currently. Central to the space on the inside wall (that backs onto the hallway with the stairs in it) there is a chimney breast that can make the room feel narrower.

I have a 200litre Fluval Roma with cabinet and would like to have it in the dining room part of the lounge diner. Due to the rooms length it does feel quite narrow and will probably feel more so when we start to move some furnature in.

Does anyone else have a setup in their dining room that they could show pictures of to help me get ideas about cabinets etc alongside them?

Has ayone built cupboards in the style of their aquarium stand in order to blend the contents of a room together?

congrats on the house!

Rather than making furniture to match the tank, what about redecorating the tank instead?

Does the roma 200 cabinet have nice panels at the rear? If so, what about using the tank as a room devider, with one of the ends adjacent to a wall, so the tanks lenght is in the middle of the room?

My house is kinda like that, tank goes between sitting room and dining room.

I've just got a new 5 foot tank to go in and replace the one there

Any other people used tanks in their diningrooms or to break up a room into a lounge diner?

Still looking for ideas - at the moment it looks like I will have it at the diningroom end of the room - with a sideboard beside to make more use of teh room and bring the space together (sound like an interior designer now - ooh er.)

My house is a Victorian terrace with long, combined lounge-diner and chimney breast off-centre. I had my aquariums in the recessed area furthest away from the window and made that area the dining room.

At my boyfriends house (where I am now living as I rent my house out now), his isn't Victorian but he still has that chimney breast with alcove, which is where he made a built-in stand/double-cupboard and space for extra tank below.

There are lots of things you can do to make the most of the space you have but definitely those chimney recesses work well for tanks.
