I've had fish for a little over 2 years now. I'm thinking about either an ADF or a Dwarf Puffer to add to my little family. I have a betta in a 5.5 gal; 4 glofish danios in a 5 gal; and a 2 gal sitting empty right now. I've read on both critters and am still learning about both.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Frogs and puffers should be kept in their own tanks to prevent problems. Frogs can get sick from poor water quality and fish diseases and are very hard to treat. So keeping them in their own tank reduces the chances of them getting sick.

Puffers are notorious fin nippers and cause problems to other fishes so are best kept in a single species tank. They can also release toxins into the water if they get stressed or die and poison everything in the tank. It is a good idea to have carbon in the filter in any tank containing puffer fish, box fish, cow fish or blowfish. The carbon should be replaced every 2 weeks to make sure it is fresh and can adsorb anything that might get released.

African Dwarf Frogs should be kept in tanks that are at least 5 gallons and 10 gallons is better. Pygmy Puffers need a 10 gallon or bigger tank, and bigger puffers need bigger tanks (50 gallons +).

Feed frogs and puffers a variety of foods so they don't become addicted to one food and suffer malnutrition. Puffers will eat shrimp and snails and you can set up tanks or ponds and breed ramshorn snails and other types of snail for the puffers to eat. You can also breed shrimp in tanks or ponds for the same purpose.
