Just want to say hello to everyone. my name is Mike Rathnow. I live in Michigan, and have been raising tropical fish for as long as I can remember. I used to belong to the Michigan Cichlid Association, where I used to be president of the club. I've also belong to the Motor City Aquarium Society. Both clubs were great to be in and I've met a lot of great people from them. Been having some family problems for the last couple of years, which have slowed me down on my fish. But I will be getting back into them soon. I've always been one to try and breed species that are extremely hard to breed or haven't been bred in captiviy.

I hope to be able to help out some on the forum, and also learn from some of you. Everyone have a great weekend. And I will hopefully be making some new friends here. :D

Hi there, i'm new here too and have been keeping fish for about 2yrs now and are trying to breed unusual/rare species of fish/ones that havn't been bred in captivity before; are there any ones in particular you are trying to breed?

Tokis Phoenix;
Right now I have a group of 8 geophagus altamira in a 150gal. tank that are maturing great. I need another year for them to probably get going. I also have 8 breeding pairs of lamprologus ocellatus. These are the only shell dwellers I have left. I also have a colony of cyprichromis leptosoma I'm trying to get going. The corys I breed are the corydoras stenocephalus, and c.robineae. I also breed the taeniacara candidi. I think it is just the most beautiful of all South America cichlids. I've been trying like hell to get my zebra plecos to breed. But as of now had one batch of eggs that fungused up on me. And haven't gotten them to breed again. I also have 4 wild pair of pterophyllum altums but haven't had any luck on them starting to breed. But 2 pair have a lot of interest in each other. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm in the process of resetting up my dwarf pike cichlids. Which I really want to breed badly. The ones I have are crenicichla notophthalmus, and c.regani. Thats about all I have going on now. I'm still looking for a true pair of black bettas. I had some when i was young. and can't seem to get what I'm looking for now.
