my names kieran and ive just set up a 60L tank. just starting to plant it and build up my supplies. its been running a few days now as it is.

i want to add more plants and then some fish.

im not 100% sure on the cycling so im gonna buy a ph test kit and test it before fish go in i think. unless i can cycle it with fish in it.

also need to get a new bulb as i dont like the 'yellow' glow.

have visited the forum a few times before and its very easy to navigate and very useful.

First read the 'Cycling a Tank' link thats on top of the forum page.

That will guide you on how to cycle your water first BEFORE adding in any fish.
Highly recommended you do this first.

And yes, your light does seem a little bit dim, that might not be so good for your plants if they need higher lighting. So try changing the tube/bulb first. What kind of lighting is it by the way?

its a tube. i dont think its a very good one as even with the lid off it isnt very bright.

im going to start running tests this weekend for the cycle. hopefully ill be on my way then.

I really recomend the API Freshwater Master Test Kit. It is 30 dollars, but it isnt a waste and that brand of test kit is the most used one here on the sight. You can get it in the UK and US.

Welcome!

Might be an old tube am assuming a T8, they do lose their brightness after a while sometimes.

Try getting a new one and see if theres any difference
