New Guppy Fry!

I just spotted a new guppy fry amongst my plants after feeding!!! =D I think the older guppy fry is trying to protect (or eat) it.
I'm so excited! I think it may be Lemondrop, my newest female guppy since she has been fat for a while. Me and my mom are taking turns watching it. Well, it seems its my turn now, so bye for now!

Also, is it okay to keep it in there and hope for the best? It seems like its hiding well and foraging around for food, so thats good. Please help me with this!

Yes, congrats! If you think Lemondrop is still delivering, you might drop some flake food in the tank so they're more likely to eat that than the fry. Good luck!

Well, I'm not really sure who had them, since this morning Lemondrop is still kinda fat. The little fry is still here this morning though so I am happy! Ya we did that after we saw the fry This Old Spouse. I think we are going to leave him/her in there, maybe he/she will grow up to be bigger and stronger then Skittles (the older guppy fry that was in a divider).

Make sure you have somewhere for the fry to go if you want them to survive, Java Moss works well, or heavily plant the tank out. Spirulina liquid food is good for the babies as is baby brine shrimp, you can make your own brine shrimp at home for like £5 which will give you all the food you need really, just add a little spirulina flakes crushed for veggies

There are plenty of hiding spots in my tank that they can hide in, currently the one little guppy fry is switching from one plant to another, which is good. We also have a cave-like piece of driftwood that would be good for them to hide in also.

Spirulina flakes and liquid food? I'll look for that the next time we get a chance to go to the fish store.

So far I can still see the little fry, hopefully it will survive till the next cleaning so we can get a chance to see it up close!

They can survive quite well on ground-up flake food. Just grind it into a near powder. You might want to then mix it in some tank water, then squirt it fairly close to the little nipper with an eyedropper or turkey baster, after the others have been fed.

Thats a good idea, thanks! Lemondrop is *still* fat so I should be expecting some fry very soon from her. The one little newborn from one of the others is still alive, thriving and avoiding the sneak attacks or the adults. I'm also sad because I haven't seen any other guppy fry, maybe this is just a lone guy like our little (but growing) Skittles.

I know the feeling! I just switched my cory from one tank to another, and moved my tiger barbs to their old tank. Guess what I saw last night? A cory fry!

I tried to suck him up with my turkey baster but he slipped away too fast and I haven't seen it since. I can only fear the worst.

it's funny..one of my female guppies had some babies and I saw her having her last few which are still alive. There are 5 which probably means the rest got eaten as I wasn't ready and there probably wasn't enough hiding places. But I know that she will have another batch of guppies in a month from now...so you'll bet a chance for more guppies...I've actually put them in a breeding tank...but am aiming at being as brave as you, letting them defend for themselves...I find it hard as you're continuously watching the tank to see where they are. I like the name lemondrop as I've got a free guppy fry from the petstore and it's bright yellow...I hope it's a male as he'll make great looking guppies. Anyway, good luck...in a month from now, you'll probably have some more.

Thanks for the advice. For the past few months before Skittles was born we weren't seeing any newborns or survivors, so I don't know what was up with that. My blue male guppy died sometime yesterday, so I am sad about that and also wondering whether we should wait until Skittles is bigger and we can decide whether to keep her, or should we go get another male? I'm still trying to convince my mom to give away the danio.

I'd wait to see what the gender of the fry is before getting another male. If it turns out to be a male, and you get another one, they'll overly harass the female. Guppies should have a minimum of 2-3 females to one male.

Okay, I'll suggest that to my mom. (She is a little busy now-in-days so she might prefer waiting anyways) If the new guppy if a male, then we will be just about perfect, since I am pretty sure Skittles is a female and then we already have 3 other adult females. No signs of sickness in the other fish, I'll keep watching them for a few days.
