Got four new guppies today:
-2 males (blue neon, orange stripy tail)
-2 females (firetail?)

I got these from Maidenhead Aquatics in Crews Hill.
The guy who picked the fish said that the guppies I got don't have babies, which is strange considering all the reading I've done that says guppies easily breed.
Do guppies have to breed with those of the same type? Are there any female guppies that don't have babies?

Upon asking him about whether these guppies I was buying would have babies, he said something along the lines of: "They just don't - I don't know the science behind it..."

Am I missing something here?

The guy is wrong, guppies will even try to breed with other species, so different colour varients won't bother them  You need 2 females to every male though, or the females will get killed by the males

AH thank you, I thought he was wrong!
-_- I have 2 males and 2 females...will it pose problems?

ok thanks! will try to get some more females tomorrow.

I've just released the guppies and noticed that the male ones with the massive finnage are being pushed by the trickle filter, will this damage the fins?

It shouldn't. If the flow is too strong, position the outlet against a flat object to disperse it and lessen the current in the tank. :good:

Yes guppies will breed with any other guppy, and are know to harass other frmeales of other species.
A ratio of 2 females to each male is best or only having males is what i find.
