I bouth a 1.5" GSP from the LFS, with him I also bought a thing of freshwater aquarium salt. I have had him for a couple days now and have been adding 1 tablespoon of the salt roughly every 12 hours as not to harm him. I was told by the LFS guy to add 1 tablespoon of salt per gallon to to his tank. I currenty have 14 tablespoons of freshwater aqaurium salt (20g tank). I figured I should ask an experienced keeper about the salinity before continueing.

Side Note: I have been adding 2 tablespoons of the same salt to my 55g mbuna tank each day hoping to have 1 tbl spoon per gallon eventually. Should I be doing this?

Thanks,
Mbuna Fanatic

You want to be using marine salt I think, the salt you are using is to cure illnesses.

You need a refractometer/hydrometer to measure salinity, I think it should be 1.05 top

Not 100% sure

Good luck!

I have read others post in regards to salinity for puffers, 1.012-1.015 seems to be the magic number. My question now is can I buy marine salt and raise it instantly or add abuot .002 a day or something to slowely bring it to 1.015???

EDIT: I beleive i need to do about .002 added a day to allow the beneficial bacteria keep up because it differs from freshwater to brackish.

Another question... My apple snail in my 55g mbuna tank has recently layed a few egg sacs...will the baby snails be a good source of teeth control for my little guy?
