I'm a little paranoid because I don't want the rest of my fish to get sick (expensive to replace!) so I thought I may as well make sure my new Gourami's behaviour is normal.

I got him yesterday, its a Flame gourami.
He hides a lot, which I expected, but I just came into the room and saw him in a corner on the floor breathing heavily and curling his body up, kind of like he was sweeping the sand with his tail.

He did it for 30sec or so, then moved on and hid - now he is fine.

Like I said, it's probably just me being paranoid, but thought I'd make sure it isn't the classic signs of some sort of contagious illness!

This is just a guess but maybe he's constipated? Cook a couple of frozen peas, squeeze them out their shells, chop them up then give him a pinch (as you would normal fish food). It should help if he is.
