Hi everyone

Sad couple of days as I have purchased fish and lost them. I have a 180L planted tank with rock, bogwood and gravel substrate, containing 10 lemon tetra, 3 clown loach , a clown plec and a rainbow shark.

I decided to add a few final splashes of colour to finish and settled on two honey gourami (the red/fire type) and two dwarf gourami, one flame and one powder blue. After 48 hours I found one of the red fire gourami dead in the bottom of the tank. Three days later (yesterday) I found the powder blue dwarf looking like he was in real trouble. He had been looking very shy but that morning he looked as if he was leaning whilst swimminmg at one point, but I put it down to the current. When I got home he was laying on his side. When prompted he flew round the tank at ridiculous speed a couple of times and then dropped to the bottom. He was curling and finally came to a stop, contorted at almost 90 degrees. Regretfully I decided to put him out of his misery.

My question is this. The guy at maidenhead aquatics said to look out for a disease that has been affecting gourami and rainbow fish, that had even raised the attention of defra? Can't remember how to pronounce it let alone spell it, but involved patchy colour on the gourami? Has anybody else heard this? He said if it were him he would remove the fish immediately as it was acting very strangely, but I wasn't keen on condemning a fish without any evidence of disease. Luckily that descision was made for me when I got home, as I explained above.

The other two gourami seem right as rain, so I don't want to remove them unless they start to behave similarly. I don't like casting aspersions, but I am kicking myself for buying them from Pets at Home under kiddy pressure. I only went in for some dechlorinator as its within walking distance. I normally drive ten miles to MA. I know bad batches of fish can occur, but I have had fourteen fish from MA and they all seem to be thriving happily. I have bought four from Pets at Home and lost two within the week.

Are yiur water stats ok? Is yiur tank suitable for them? If the answer is yes then i would suggest, if yku can tale the dead fish back to P@H and inform them what has happened ASAP. If they do have a disease then someone else could infect there own tank also, and you never know how big or how many fosh they have in it!!! Also, if they suspected the fish may have a disease then WHY did they sell them?!
Fingets crossed all works out ok & i suppose lesson learnt!!!
