We just picked up a couple of these from the lfs this evening. They were labelled as "dwarf dragon gobies" which I find hard to believe. We've done a bit of research and it looks like they may be female rhinogobius wui - can anyone confirm this and if so give us a bit of info about them?

Thanks for looking tekknocolor, but I think we've confirmed they are rhinogobius wui. I found an article where it's mentioned they are also (falsely) called dragon gobies.

So is nobody going to say how pretty they are?

 I was just going to, but I had no info for you.

They are stunning.

EDIT: Ok, they are in Aquarium Fish, by Schliewen. It says:

2 inches (5cm), pH 6-7.5; medium hard to hard; 59-77F(15-25C)
Set-up: Tank with some circulation. Many small hiding places around which the males claim small territories.
Tip on communities: Small fishes that like circulation.
Food: Small live food; no dry food.
Sexual differences: Males have red lines on the gill lamellae; body and fins more brightly colored.
Breeding: Raise young in separate tank on Artemia.
Bio-type: Small rivers in hilly country in southern China and Hongkong.

:D

Thanks cometcattle, I was only being cheeky asking for praise lol.

The males are even more striking, but the store didn't seem to have any of those. We may go back and have another look tomorrow though.

i likey!!! you must get a head on shot. i love gobies grumpy little faces

As soon as I can get one to keep still I will. They're very tiny and difficult to see on the sand, lol. Plus they keep "jumping" around in the way that gobies do.

Really cute!

I have a red throated goby that lives in a non-heated tank with a crowntail betta. He has a small system of rocks that he has dug caves underneath and he seems to enjoy it - eating snail eggs, brine shrimp and the odd variety wafer.

Ben :)

Awwww.......

I use to have one of those...the lfs called them "white-cheeked gobies".

I had him for a long time...he was by far my favorite fish.

Unfortunately, I've never seen any more around here since I got him.

You'll really enjoy them....gobies are great little entertaining fish!! :D
