I now have a new batch of fry. They were born 3 day ago and I am not entirely sure on the number, because they just won't hold still. i did get to 13 before they moved and I lost count.
She had them in the main tank, but it is heavily planted so I left her in there. I had been noticing her getting big, but I decided to just leave her in the main tank to drop her fry instead of moving her into the birthing tank with the older fry. I noticed the first of the fry at about 3:00 in the afternoon and I got excited and netted him into the grow out tank. Upon further observation I found 5 more and netted them. She must've just started her drop, because I kept noticing new fry every 10 minutes or so for about an hour, then i had to leave. When I came back another hour or so later there were yet more fry in the tank. I don't remember netting so many fry, but there are certainly quite a few in the fry tank.
I even got to watch her give birth to one of them. That was really cool to watch. It just sort of shot out like it was no problem at all and then went swimming away.
The fry from my last batch are about 4 weeks old I believe. 2 female greys about 1" long and one male that I am unsure of his color, about 3/4" long. These guys were my first successful batch of fry that actually grew. They are doing quite well and I didn't realize how big they'd gotten until I saw them next to the new babies.
I have a question, though. At what age will the babies be able to breed? And what age is it safe to ship them?
