reet! i did have two clown loaches but there were only two so were always skittish and because of the size they reach, i decided it was time to take them to the lfs so they can be with more of their own and have alot more space. the lfs's clown loach tank is massive! there's clown loaches in there for like £20 a peice! kerayzay!
anyways, here were my clowns.

Is it an Elephant nose? Shame about you Clowns but it looks as though you've come home with a lovely fish!

I adore elephant noses. I use to have one a few years back, such a lovely timid fish.

Oh also, don't clown loaches have a tooth which they use to burst snail's shells? that's probably what the sting was that you felt.

Nice fish.

They have tusks. There's an article about it in this month's practical fish keeping.

your clowns were lovely, but ele's are just gorgeous

Clown loaches have a little spine just under each eye which lies flat unless they feel they are in danger and they can stick them out. That's probably what it was that hurt your hand.

Nice elephant nose by the way!

You know that fish has the potential to reach 13" but 8" is common. Also be carefull of your water quality they are hard fish to kep and are not very forgiving.

Nice fish i liked it. What size of tank do u have. i like to get one my tank is 29 gal. I guess i cant get one.

i have mine in a 30 gallon.

it doesn't usually grow past 8" (maybe up to 10") in any sized aquarium (unless its like pond sized).
and, from other people's experiences, when it gets to this size, it's not active at all. most of the day it will sit there doing nothing. the fish may be more active at night, considering its a nocturnal fish, but i'm not sure.

i wasn't as aware of this when i first got it as i am now. researching a little extra in plants that would keep the fish happy etc (the extra mile sort'a thing) and found out the water has got to be almost "perfect" if you will.
the fish has lasted the night and still looking as healthy as ever so i'm guessing my water is good. i'm going to get a water testing kit or some sort of friday when i can afford it. until then, i'm going to buy quite alot of blood worms for my new fish.

i didn't know about this until lastnight either lol
they're not poisonous at all are they?
it was horrible! i couldn't close my hand without it hurting for like an hour!
the swelling has gone down but there is still a little redness still there.
it doesn't out weigh the fact that I HAVE AN ELEPHANT NOSE :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I can vouch for that. In my younger fishkeeping days I tried keeping a few (not at the same time), and each died after a few months, probably max a year - with the wrong tank mates and my water was too soft & acidic. So you if you want to keep your elephant nose happy and alive, it needs a "gentle" tank, live plants and vegetation (to feel safe and secure) and good varied diet where it doesn't have to compete for food.
