So I finally bought 6 kuhli loaches!!!

My question is this. My tank sits at about 77degrees. but my reading says kuhlis need 79 to 86. will them be okay in this temp or should I slowly adjust the temperature in the tank?

I have livebearers, gourami, catfish, corys and a bn.

Kuhli Loaches often turn out to be Pangio semicincta, for which 26C (79F) is the highest recommended temp on a reliable fishkeeping site...

If anything, I would turn down the heater thermostat so that it only kicks in if the water temp goes <24C (75F). Guages on heaters rarely match actual temps, for instance "20C" on my Rena will try to maintain 23C, "32C" on my Juwel will try to maintain 24C.

If these loaches are going in the same tank as your Synodontis euptera, I would be wary of them not ending up as live lunch at worst or being outcompeted for food at best at night. During the day, your livebearers are likely to outcompete the loaches for food and it would not surprise me if the fragile loaches hide all day because of them.

They are a very risky addition to your semi-boisterous, mid-sized fish community, IMO. You would have been far safer getting other loach species such as Dwarf Chain; Zebra; Yoyo etc. that are a bit more assertive, but not too much otherwise your corydoras would would not do well.

at one point I was told kuhlis would be okay in my tank. and my main stock (the livebearers and syno) have been consistent for 18 months now. I have plenty of hiding places and just got some hardier plants and a larger driftwood piece. sydney (syno) was raised with the cories and the livebearers and fry. and he hasnt chased or bullidd any of them. I think cause I got him at 1 inch big and he grew up with them hes less aggressive than if hed been raised with different tank mates.... I dunno
