alas! i finally get my second- er, third- tank =)

you see, my grandmother is moving from Quebec down here sometime soon, and i had the brilliant idea to get her a smallish tank- 5 or 10 gallons- as decoration and a housewarming gift, as something for her to take care of. she looooves dogs and cats, but has a thing with being around fur too much. why not a fish? fish can be puppies too ^^

i was thinking either these setups, what do you think?

1 - 5g, air cartridge filter, white gravel w/ blue gemstones, silk flowers (not aquatic plants) heater, and a small ceramic ornament. fish: 3 Balloon Mollies, 4 Japonicus Shrimp

2 - 10g, power filter, white gravel w/ pink and red gemstones, silk flowers & two large silk plants, medium sized ceramic ornament. fish: 1 Female Betta, 6 Gold Danios, 2 Julii Cats

Light gravel tends to make the fish lose their color. I've got a plec in my 50 that went from black to brown when I moved it from a tank with dark gravel to the tank with white gravel.

For the ten, make that a male betta or put in multiple females. Danios need room to prevent asphyxiation, so you might want to reconsider adding them.

Those are good choices, for the most part, and it is a very good gift, IMO. Are you taking care of the tank or your grandma?
