After having a stable tank with no trouble, for around 7years I am now having problems introducing new fish. I have once again recently put in 4 black neons in a 180 litre tank with only a couple of plecs, 2 rummy nose tetras, 2 platys and a zebra danio. They seemed ok to start with but after 3 to 4 days they are not eating and shoal together pretty motionless in the same one end of the tank. This has happened before recently and the outcome is that they will eventually die. Water quality is good with PH 7 Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrate approx.10mg/litre. This has been checked independently by the fish supplier. Oxygen in water is ok and temperature is approx 24degC. My water change programme has been consistently around 33% per month for many years with no problems. Apart from the new fish the others all seem ok. Is it possible that I could have a disease in the tank which old inmates are used to but quickly infects new fish. I'm starting to run out of ideas!
