Hello :)

I'm Hayley, 21 and live in the UK.

I've recently started my 1st tropical set up, I have a small 60Litre tank.

I've set it up using Aqua safe, filter pads in both coarse & fine, and a filter start liquid and let it run for a couple of days.
There is a plastic plant & gravel in the tank too.

Today I introduced my fish to it, 4*Neon Tetras and a Siamese Fighting Fish (male).

The fish stockist said both could be fed a diet of tropical flake, but I'm led to beleive the Siamese needs a bloodworm diet. Can anyone help me with that?

Also, will I need a live plant or some sort of air pump to oxygenate my tank?
Again, I'm advised this is the case, but pet store say no, the filter alone is enough?

Thanks :)

Hi Hayley,

I currently have a tank that is same size as yours. For a long while I just used a filter which, if placed near enough the surface so it gives good surface disturbance, seems to be sufficient. I recently added an air pump which I occasionally use but that was more for decoration than anything else as it has a blue light which looks nice when the main lights are off. So I think your filter should be ok with the number of fish you have.

I also just have plastic plants, I have never tried live plants, you may want a few more plastic plants though to provide some shelter/ hiding places for your fish.

Hi:)

No, I was led to believe by the store I bought the fish from that the procedure I followed above was correct & there would be nothing else to do except introduce stock very slowly.

I've now realized its wrong, so am crossing fingers and hoping for the best really since there isnt much else I can do now I have stock in there.

I've been advised to take it easy on the feeding to allow the filter to catch up, is there anything else I can do?

Thanks x
