Hi, i have just got a firefish that may soon go back as my clowns are aggressive towards it and i don't want it to be hurt. Can you guys reccomend me any semi aggressive fish that will be alright with clownsfish if they start beiing aggressive towards it. My tank is 15 gal.

My current stocking is:
2 B/W occelaris clownfish
1 firefish (hopefully will be gone to save him torment)
2 cleaner shrimp
3 hermits (red and 1 unknown)
2 nassurius snails
2 turbo snails
2 cerith snails

Thanks
Will

yellow tail damsel lol. there pretty aggressive towards clowns... well mine is anyway. more territorial than anything but they both set up there own sleeping spot right next to eachother so the damsel always going for the poor little clown. how long have you had the firefish ? its normal for them to fight for a week or 2 to sort out whos the boss and whos territory is whos

ah still pretty new to the tank, do they ever go on opposite ends of the tank or do the clowns attack it only when it goes near them, it could be they just nip its tail when its in there territory or something... same as my damsel does it never actually bites the other fish just warns it off. but if they share the same area of the tank then its not really great news. could try making two caves from the live rock or something, im going to try that with mine later and see if it helps

How about a Royal gramma or a Orchid Dottyback

Those are really aggressive. Might want to try something a little less-so like a psuedochromis springeri or other closely related psuedochromis

I disagree - neither Royal Grammas or Orchid Dottybacks (Pseudochromis fridmani) are particularly aggresive - The Orchid Dottyback is the least aggressive dottyback IMO

i just got a clown who has a fin with a chunk missing who disagrees the royal gammas aren't aggressive. And for the record...royal gammas have ugly faces, there I said it.

agreed, the false royal gramma and strawberry or magenta dottyback are the aggresive evil ones! easily told apart royal grammas colours blend in whereas the false ones stop straight block colours and orchid dottybacks have a black line running through there eye whereas strawberrys dont.

Royal G. can be aggressive. In a big tank I have seen two kept successfully. Granted, tank size fuels or puts out the aggressive fires.

i was always under the impression you can keep groups of them, since one will change it sex to be the more dominent within the group. hence why in a book "what fish" it says that they are one of the easier to breed in captivety.
