Hi i have a very placid
red tailed shark,
2 dwarf gouramis? male and female
5 guppys, 2 male and 3 female
4 platies, not to sure on sex but they get along?
3 false julli cory cats
and last but not least 2 striata botia loach, at least i THINK they are?
oh and two snails!

they get on perfectly, they are all small at the mo, and i will upgrade in around 6 monthes to a bigger tank.

they thrive on the temp which is 82f at the mo, any lower and they look tired so i keep it at this, my shark loves the fish and sits next to them and loves thecompany, very strange for a shark i hear.

the guy in the shop claims i can still have more fish but i doubt it, he said i can have 20 fish and 10 bottom dwellers, as i have an equal amount of surface, middle and floor dwellers i think its just right as they look happy as they have swimming space. the snails have laid eggs but i have removed them, i think they are snails eggs, they where out the water on the roof looking like a bit of honey combish

10 gallons just isnt enough terratory for the shark i'm afraid, which means it'll most probably kill everything in there eventually... guppys first! the males wobble alot when swimming which would attract the shark even if they were in a massive tank.
how big is your shark now? they get to around 6 inches or something.

i can imagine the dwarf gouramis will need more room too but i'm not 100% sure on that one

and to answer your question, it is pretty over crowded

i think a pair of gouramis to 10 gallons?http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di....cfm?pCatId=974the guy in the shop told me i still had room for mor fish, as they swim in diffo levels of the water as 6 of them are bottom dwellers

a shark isn't completely a bottom dweller, they roam across their entire territory. they are normally recommended for 55 gallon tanks or more. i had one in a 30 gallon tank and it attacked alot of the fish in it... even angelfish that were like 6 inches tall!
this is a fish that can do alot of damage, especially to something like guppys.

other than that, i reckon you could get anyway with the other fish with the right filtration

Definately get rid of the red tailed black shark, your tank is too small for it and they are also aggressive.

Matt

I will see how things go,

i will be getting a bigger tank in around 6 monthes or so, do you think things will be ok till then?

you will have 2 gourmies and 1 shark by then. the guppies will be food.

Its not just a case of what levels of the tank they swim at really, whats equally important if not more is the amount of waste all this fish are producing into a 10 gallon tank, i dont know the final size of the shark you have but if the other poster was correct with a figure of 6 inches then i wouldnt reccommend it not only on the grounds of it being notoriously aggressive but also the amount of waste it will produce combined with all the other fish in there.

What filtration do you have and how often do you perform water changes?
