I upgraded my filter to a biowheel 350. It's a little more power than I need for my 29 gallon aquarium but I got a really good deal on it, new. I put my old filter cartridge from my topfin behind one of the cartridges in the new biowheel. I'll be my checking my water often but I was just wondering if anyone thinks I'll have a break in my cycle and how long everyone thinks I should keep the old cartridge in for?

You shouldn't experience a break in your cycle, but bacteria are sometimes fickle creatures so it make take a few days for the colony to bounce back after being moved. As long as you test often and do any water changes necessary, you should be fine.

You should keep the old cartridge in place for at least six weeks to give the bacteria enough time to colonise the new media.
