New Filter

HELP PLEASE I set up my new 3ol tank and got a fluval mini its got just foam in it
should i add a Carbon sponge as well should i put it at top of the filter or at bottum thanks

u don`t need to put carbon in the filter, just run it without

As above, carbon isnt needed. It would only be useful if you are specifically removing medication you have put in the water, tannins from bogwood or trying to remove copper contamination from plants...you get the idea.

It's great to have lying around in case it's needed, but running all the time in a filter is useless on most set ups unless you plan on replacing it every day or two (as it adsorbs all it can very quickly).

Stick with the regular foam that is in the filter, just make sure you squeeze it out in tank water when cleaning it (not under the tap) and don't ever replace it unless it's literally beginning to fall apart .
