Noooo hes not going anywhere near that tank, I don't want to spread the finrot. He is in his own heated and filtered 3 gal. I'm treating him with the Jungle's stuff.
I was thinking to do a fishless cycle, just wasn't sure if that would take a really long time. I was hoping to go get the two new bettas over this coming weekend.
Hi, Jessica,
I'm not sure how your boy's doing now, but just wanted to leave a quick message that others might be interested in as well, if they also have that horrible black fin rot, so just skimmed down to find one of your posts.
Since Petcetera didn't have any of the Quick Fix you suggested, (and I suspect this may be one of the chemicals/meds not allowed into Canada, with it being one of their own products and no sign of it anywhere and no-one there knowing anything about it) I tried the Jungle Fungus Clear, and the black is now eating into his body at the base of his tail.
But there may be a last minute save, as I've just got and started him on something I've been told might work.
Have you tried Aquarium Solutions Metro+ or any metronidazole-based meds?
The directions state that if an effect isn't seen within 3 days to try something else, (think I've tried EVERYTHING else that's available here, on the various fish I've bought with fin blackening/rot) so with any luck it'll be effective quite rapidly - and needs to be...
I'll let you know how it goes, and if it seems worth trying, if you haven't yet, although things also depends on how badly he appears to be suffering or doing, if it continues to progress.
He's the first test subject so far as I'm letting the others continue on the rest of this cycle of the Fungus Clear, in part because I've done several water changes today prior to the one on Graffiti's tank and have no more water ready, but the black is diminishing on the Harlequins with the Fungus Clear, although it seems bettas are far more susceptible, as the black eats into their fins and apparently not those of other fish.
My father was just saying that it reminds him of that flesh-eating disease, and I suppose that's pretty much what it is, really...
Must go keep an eye on him so take care, and I'll let you know how it goes.
