My filter is playing up. I want to buy a new one but I'm a bit confused with the selection and I don't want which are good and which aren't. Also prices seem to vary hugely.

Can anyon recommend a filter to me?

Currently have a Fluval jobby (think it's a 3).

Thanks

Vicky.

I was recommended by another member to buy an Eheim. I have the 2126 thermofilter and I'm really pleased with it. Especially because I have been able to remove my heater so my tank looks neater. It's really quiet too and self primes. Cost me £144.95 at thelivingseas.co.uk

Eheim. I've got the 2227 model wet/dry and love it. Very quiet. Wished I had gotten the thermofilter, but it cost a bit more.

I'm a huge fan of the Aquaclear HOB filters. Extremely reliable and easy to maintain. Reasonably priced too IMO.

unfortunatly not available in the UK, not that I've seen on any wholsalers list that is. :p

were you after an internal one or an external one?

That's surprising, I didn't know that. They've been available in North America for ages.

Any entrepreneurs out there in the U.K. ?

Ideally I'm after an internal filter. There is a cupboard under the tank that I could put an external in, but then I'd have to relocate my fishy books and other fish related gubbings.

Thanks everyone. Most of the places I've looked around Bristol seem to have Fluval stuff or one another make (that I can't remember) but it seems very cheap (compared to Fluval) and I was worried that cheap meant bad.

I'll have a look around.

I've got fluval internal filters and they do a good job - easy to maintain etc. I think you can find them much cheaper on the internet compared with lfs prices. I recently bought a fluval 3plus on the internet and it cost me £23.99 inc delivery, at my lfs it would have cost me £39.99.

I'd recommend going for an external filter, I recently switched from an internal Fluval filter to an external and it's made my life a lot easier and my tank a lot cleaner (granted I got a massive one for the size of my tank).
I found with the internal filter, the filter media got clogged up very quickly and I'd have to clean it every 2 weeks or so and since I've had my external filter (over 3 months now) I've yet to touch it!!! , plus having an external filter also means there's more room in the tank.

From what I've heard Eheim are very good, although one LFS told me that recently, they have moved production to China from Germany and quality has come down significanlty. I'm using a JBL cristal pro available from www.zooplus.co.uk/ and it's tops :good:

oh forgot to ask, what tank size is it and how many fish are in the tank?
