New Filter On 30 & Want To Change Fiters On 100 Gals

I have a 100 brackish tank with 2 marineland emperors 400gph and 2 powerhead filters that both do 600 gph. I was thinking about changing the filter set up. The filter cartdidges cost a good penny. I have 8 target fish in it now. Dirty eaters. I do work at a pet shop and get good deals on my supplies. But i will not work there for ever and would like to get somthing cheaper on filters and such. Now for my 30 gal brackish i had to set up because my target fish kick them out! In it i have 2 dragon gobys, 1 puffer and some odds and ends. I bought a marineland magnum 220 covertible canister filter -new for 31.00 I thought it was a good deal. Heck it is suppost to do 220 gpr. I am not happy with it. I dont know maybe its me. I like over kill on my tanks. Anyone ever used one? I dont want to keep wasting money on filters. I have noticed that alot of marineland filters are being returned . Tetra filters are not much better. Any comments on what i should do ? Thanks .

So the new filter is too slow, your saying?

I suggest either a Eheim or Rena canister filter for those tanks. On the 100 gal tank I would run two canister filters.

I wouldn't ditch the Marineland Emporers, just buy a couple of mesh bags and a huge container of whatever media you like. Then you just can make your our filter cartridges.

Sorry, I don't have a clue on your canister issue.
