So, I was at Petsmart tonight getting some tank dividers and new filter stuff...I knew I was going to look at the bettas, but I've never been very impressed with what was there. I saw this little girl, and just felt so sorry for her sitting in her little cup of dyed-blue water. I decided that for $2.50, I would save her, regardless of what type she is or really looks like. Anyway, here she is. I don't have a name for her at the moment. I hope she makes it. All there bettas looked like they were CTD. Do you think she's just a regular VT? She's not being very photogenic at the moment, so I'll show you what I have, and try to get more tomorrow.

Here you can see her fins as she skirts away...(in the first tank...now she's in her own 10g for the moment--or until I get some more males!)

Thats a good save. i usually like the white(ish) bodies with darker fin colors.

i have yet to get a female tho. fish i mean :p

Yeah she looks VT to me. Might have CT somewhere in there but looks mainly VT.
She's a cute little girl :good:

What do you mean by CTD? Yes, she looks like a normal veil tail. A really pretty green color too. Nice find. That blue dyed water has an anti fungal med in it so that the fish don't get fungus and helps to prevent fin rot. Or so it claims. We actually seemed to get more cases of finrot not less using it. My manager fought to not use it for a long time but eventually gave up and had us start using it. I don't like how it tints the water. He left PetSmart shortly afterwards.
When you buy a fish that doesn't look like it's in the best conditions you aren't "saving" it. Especially when you buy it full price. When I rescue fish I always get them free or at a VERY reduced price. Those cups are preferable to them being put in with uncompatible fish like the one's that don't use cups always seem to do. Sure the fish aren't as active especially if the store is a little chilly but they get their water changed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so they are probably in better water conditions then they will get when most people bring them home.

Well, CTD means circling the drain...as in they didn't look good. This had nothing to do with the cups or how active they were. They were pale, loosing fins/had torn fins/showing stress lines...it's great that they get water changes and such, but they still looked very unhealthy. I've been to some Petsmart's where they have an awesome selection of bettas and other fish, and all look very healthy, but this batch that was there was not like that. I'm sure your store is nice, and the fish are well cared for thanks to you. If you don't think I saved her, that's fine. However, I consider that I did because now she's not living in a little cup, waiting to be bought in a busy store, but instead is swimming happily in a 7 gallon aquarium. I may not have saved her from death (right now), but I did save her from living her life in a cup. So, your idea of being saved and mine are different, and that's fine.

Anyhow...she's much more active today, so I took some pictures. :)

Couldn't have said it better.
Just b/c you don't pay half price or get them for free doesn't mean you're not saving them. Any betta being sold on one of those stores is a betta rescued IMO.
So what if you're giving them money.. they'll get money no matter what happens to the fish.

Anywho... I love that last picture of her.. she looks so teeny tiny!

Doesn't she? I love it. She's been very swimmy and happy the last two days, so tonight while I cleaned my males tank, I put him in a cup and put the cup in the top of the tank and let them flare at each other a bit. He's back in his tank now and is going nuts!

I do think she has a little CT in her somewhere...her tail fin is not smooth edged.

Another nice betta! this place is getting me jealous. good job on saving her btw. i hate how they keep bettas! if i had the space i wuld get alot of em! good hardy fish they r. :good:

So, I'm just going to keep posting pictures, b/c I can't stop looking at my fish and that just makes me want to take pictures!!

I've decided to name her "Jade."
