Just want to say that I finally got a new filter. It's the eheim 2234 for up to 60 gallons and I have a 30 gallon tank. Hopefully that's not overkill. I'm about 12 days into cycling this tank. I took the bio-filter out of the filter that came with the tank and put it inside the eheim to keep things going. Just hoping I did it right. Also hoping the tank will cycle faster.

Sounds like you did good! What kind of filter media are you using?

I'm using Substrat Pro, it came with the unit.

One question I have is about in and out tube placement in the tank. Should they be on opposite ends of the tank, close together, on one side? It doesn't specify in the manual.

im pretty sure if you take out bio filter and put it in the new media it umm, will CLONE! im thinking its done

I always keep the inlet and outlet on opposite sites of the tank.

Ive got the Eheim 2236 on my Juwel Rio 125 and its a great filter, my only gripe is the lack of a spray bar for water movement. Id really recommend getting one or a cheap power head purely to move water around the tank.

www.aquatics-online.co.uk sell loads of bits for Eheim stuff including spray bars etc if you are interested.
