I seem to get conflicting views whether to move the rocks etc as i have another 5 fish arriving. I can see the point as terrotary has already been established by the inmates so conflicts could arrive with the new boys.
However there seems plenty of space in the tank for new homes and this maybe selfish but the decor is nice and secure and looks good.

What are the cichlid community views on this.?

PS...There are only yellow labs at present (5) but soon to arrive are Afra's (5) .....All the same size at around 2 inches

Oh yes there are 3 females too 2 males of each species

100 views with no replies in a cichlid forum?

C'mon guys your views if you please ladies and gentlemen :good:

I know nothing. This forum doesn't get the most in the way of replies, might be worth trying on cichlid-forum.

I've no idea though - never kept malawi's and wouldn't even be able to have a guess. You could try adding them as are, watch them closely and if you get anything more than the usual bickering you could rescape then..?

yellow labs are not to bad you should be ok.

However moving the rocks dose help when introducing new fish as all the fish have to settle down and establish their spot again

it should be fine w/yellow labs. As long as the tank is big enough (def. not less than the least recommended sizes), and you don't have super aggressive fish already in there(which should be added last anyway). They yellow's are arguably one of the most peaceful mubna so I think they'll be just fine.

Afra however are aggressive. My domiant afra is taking on my pseudotropheus crabro (bumble bee) and the crabro is twice his size.

My crabro really doesn't think anything of it and doesn't do a whole lot to defend himself. He moves maybe an inch toward the afra and that's it. It's enough to thwart the afra's efforts after a few minutes. It's hilarious  It's as if the crabro is saying "dumb A$$ to the afra" since he knows he's bigger.

These fish are comical. Hopefully you'll really like them.

As for posts, it's better that the people who don't know or aren't sure not post rather than having 50 posts that say I don't know. A lot of people read these that aren't even member either. That adds to the read count and they can't post. :good:

But do you think that moving the rocks would be the better of the two options?

The 'Afra's i have coming are 2 males and 3 females but i am now thinking perhaps 1 male and 4 females/ what are your views on this or would the original 2nd male be better I intend to beed them but don't want to leave the tank lacking in colour

Personally I'd only have 1 afra male. The second won't get as colorful as the first one anyway and it may only cause aggression problems.

And don't worry about moving the rocks.

I move my rocks out three or four times a year, to do a vac in areas that I can't get to otherwise. This may be a good time to get to all the crud that's around the rocks. You'd be surprised at what can collect there...
