Hi

So Im looking at upgrading my Rio 180 in the near future, Im looking to go to around 48 x 20 x 20, which is around 70 UK Gal.

Im hoping to have 6 Discus with some cardinals for fish, but plants wise I would like Vallis for the back. what is jungle vallis? i keep hearing it and have seen it but i don;t know whether it is a variant?

Also, dwarf sag, crypts etc for foreground.

Im thinking about substrate and would like to have the 'beach' look I have seen someone on here do,apologies cant remember who did it, with a black substrate (soil, black gravel, what is best??) and a small sand part

What about ferts and so on?

That is Vallisneria Americana (or Gigantea or Tapegrass). It is one of the tallest growing Vallisneria sp.

Black substrates available include ADA Aquasoil Amazonia and Eco-complete; not really much difference between them, just the texture. Use a plastic seperator, such as those garden lawn edging

or you can use those plastic tupperware boxes and cut them up. You leave it raise above the substrate level slightly and then plant your sags along the edge to cover it or as most people tend to do these days is buy some different sized pebbles and create a gradient. This is Mark Evans (Saintly)
